From much rehearsal, beginning in the first days of speech, the liar has learned to put himself, or herself in the following example, before others. Liars may have claimed to have been disciplined by their parents, but it is not corrective discipline.
A liar may be scolded, for example, for hitting her brother. "Stop that!" when the brother protests. But in interviewing parents I have learned that the scolding (or disciplinary action) took generally one of two forms:
a. "Stop that because you are annoying me!" or
b. "Stop that because it is not kind to your brother. "
The latter reveals impact upon another.
Pathological liars do not care for the impact upon others. They do not have the same empathy that you have towards victims. They are only concerned about themselves. This follows logically with the claim, "liars hold the world in contempt."
The liar must believe that the person being lied to is inferior. The person is not smart enough to figure out the lie. This begins early in life and just as speech goes by in milliseconds from the brain to the tongue, so it is within this same speed that the self-serving and self-protective habit of lying is seen.
This is why statistics show that liars will harm you, harm your business, and harm society in general.
The liar has no problem going from a lie to the demand of being trusted. There is no true shame, nor contrite turning away from the lie.
When Brian Williams was finally caught in his lie, he claimed he was "mistaken", rather than lying, and attributed noble motives: he was trying to honor a veteran. Always the hero, yet no one has asked about the NBC crew that was with him when he was not shot at.
Why did they remain silent?
Lance Armstrong did what liars most often do when accused: he attacked.
He used his ill-gotten millions to destroy others lives, businesses and reputations. He could outlast anyone in court. Even when "apologizing" he continued to deceive. Now that no one wants to interview him, and there is a wake of destruction around him, he might be willing to talk.
In March of 2008, Hillary Clinton said that she had come “under sniper fire” in Bosnia a decade earlier. She said this knowing that there were reporters with her of whom she did not think would contradict her.
When reporters said that this was false, Clinton dug in her heels and kept to her story. She maligned the reputation of others and attempted to undermine their credibility with "he said; she said" scenario. Her strategy: she was above all others and her "word" would stand.
Then, as is sometimes the case, something else emerged to challenge her.
CBS offered a video proving it to be false.
Hillary Clinton said, “I made a mistake. That happens. It shows I’m human.”
In declaring oneself "human", as the obvious, it is in comparison to something else.
Divinity.
Brian Williams was set forth as one to be trusted by the American people to deliver to them, nightly, the news of their world. Each night, he "appeared to" 7 to 10 million people, at once.
He has now "taken himself off the news for a few days" in yet another statement of extreme arrogance.
He holds the world in contempt.
He held the American public in contempt, thinking that they were too ignorant to catch on to his lies. He held the NBC camera crew, fellow reporters, and security guards in contempt. They would be silent, or else.
In business, using Statement Analysis in the interview screening process, money, heartache, law suits and reputations can all be saved, remedied, or avoided, but it is only when one understands the danger of the liar.
Richard Blumenthal prosecuted how many lives? One who outright lies, and then attacks anyone who "dare" question him, in also god-like terminology, is to be now trusted that he did not pamper his career with false convictions?
Will people want to elect Hillary Clinton, who's language reveals the same pathological lying and divine-like status, holding the public in contempt, to the nation's highest office?
This contempt is what law enforcement not only encounters, but must use in the polygraph procedure: touching upon the ego of the liar, who feels, with life long experience, "up to the challenge" of the lie detector.
Then, like in the words of Justin DiPietro who said, while his child was "missing", that he "smoked" the polygraph.
Without the training of Statement Analysis, which teaches to use exclusively the polygraph subject's own words, we will continue to see the guilty pass.
Without such training in Human Resources, shrinkage, inappropriate unemployment, and the overall "gaming of the system", in and out of courts, will continue.
If one cannot be trusted with the truth of being shot upon, or having one's own feet on the ground in a foreign country, how can one be trusted with greater responsibilities?
